I love boxing! Now, I know what you’re thinking, how can you love getting hit in the face? But no I’m not talking about me standing in a ring flighting, but instead doing boxing classes as a way of keeping fit. I mean who wants a black eye and a swollen lip?! Not me! In the past few years boxing has become more and more popular, especially in America with the likes of Gigi Hadid and other popular models using it to maintain their lean and perfectly toned bodies.

Having been wanting to try it out myself I really struggled to find somewhere in London. Yes there are lots of old school boxing gyms but there was something about going there that I found really intimidating. Especially being a complete novice and never being properly taught any technique.

So imagine my happiness when I was told KOBOX was arriving in London over 7 months ago. Ok, now times that by a hundred. Yup, I was pretty happy. And what made it even better was that the founder of KOBOX was my favourite trainer and Irish man Shane Collins. So of course I headed over to the fancy new studio on its opening day for the very first class. A bit keen? Possibly. However I’ve been hooked ever since.

KOBOX is found on the Kings Road in the centre of Chelsea and offers exactly what I was longing for in a boxing gym. The classes are an hour long each and are designed to lengthen, strengthen and tone the body using boxing training techniques, without the risk of a black eye. Victoria secret body I’m coming for you! And on top of that the studio and surrounding areas are gorgeous with REN toiletries and GHD’s in the changing rooms, you’ll never want to shower at home or anywhere else again.

And to add to the excitement theres even a Fuel bar with a menu filled with delicious protein shakes. My favourite one is the Almond Featherweight.

So, here’s a little more about what the workout is like. Each class is an hour long and is taken in a nightclub setting, think dark room with cool lights and loud music minus the creepy guys. The class itself is split into the following sections:

Warm-Up and Shadow boxing

This is done as a group and aims to get your heart rate up. The warm up consists of anything from tapping hands on the floor, high knees, jumping, shuttle runs or bouncing in a boxing stance.

The shadow boxing section teaches you the punch by numbers system that KOBOX works with. During this section you will learn which punch links to which number and how to perfect it. This section is done with small hand weights, but trust me you really feel that burn.

Boxing and Strength Training

Once you’ve warmed up and learnt the punch by numbers system the class is divided into two groups and you will start on either a wall spot (strength training) or a bag spot (boxing).

While boxing you will be punching an Aqua Training bag – this is a teardrop shape bag which is full of water, meaning it’s soft and kind to your knuckles, and most importantly for the ladies your nails will very much remain intact. The KOBOX number system comes into play when you’re on the bag as you’ll see various punch sequences projected onto the wall. This means you don’t have to worry about remembering the sequence as you’ll be able to see exactly what you’re meant to be doing from the projections.

The strength work on the wall is different day to day and consists of exercises either using body weight, weighted discs, medicine balls, skipping ropes and resistance bands. All exercises will be boxing based to help you achieve that lean look rocked by the likes of Gigi Hadid!

The last 5 minutes of class is used to stretch out. A very important part of working out that so many people skip out. In the KOBOX studio these 5 minutes is when the lights get dark and the music gets slower and calmer. and you get to stretch out whilst thinking about what you’ve just accomplished.

Every time I leave the KOBOX studio I feel like a complete badass and is no doubt my favourite way to train.

Classes normally start from £20, the more you buy the cheaper they get. There is also a First Timer deal available which gives you two classes and a pair of KOBOX branded wraps for £25.

However, this is where it gets really exciting, KOBOX for the whole of August have a deal on to celebrate the Olympic games where each class throughout August is £10!! You really don’t have any excuse not to go and try it.

All info can be found on their website.

Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this site.
It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s challenging to get that “perfect balance” between user
friendliness and appearance. I must say you’ve done a fantastic job
with this. In addition, the blog loads super quick for me on Safari.
    Outstanding Blog! http://bing.net
