What is hell week?

Hell week happens in the months with five Mondays starting on the final Monday with participants completing a class every day for seven days in a row.

What is Barrys Bootcamp?

Barrys Bootcamp is a HIIT workout class that combines equal length intervals of cardio (treadmill sprints/runs/dynamic mode runs) and floor work (weight training/resistance exercises/body weight) in a one-hour workout that can burn up to 1,000 calories. Each day of the week focus of a different body part meaning if you were to go every day of the week you’d get a complete full body workout. The treadmills in class aren’t your average gym treadmills, but are US Navy Seal approved Woodway treadmills that go in Mph instead of Kmph. So expect to be running fast, really fast! However, with the trainer calling out three speeds at all times (beginners, intermediate and advanced) you have the option to push yourself as hard as you can or want to. The weights in the class range from 4kg-25kg with the trainer calling out a rough guide of which dumbbells to pick, so you’ll have the option to increase or decrease the weight depending on how strong you’re feeling. In a Barry’s class you’ll not only be pushed to your limits but also feel like you’ve had a personal training session and not just been in any old group class.

And that’s not all, before attempting to make yourself look half decent after class in the luxe changing rooms (think Malin + Goetz products and slick-looking key-pad entry lockers), you can pick up your order of your Barry’s Fuel Bar protein shake that’s waiting for you when you finish for an added extra luxury of £5.

All of this combined in a club-like environment with highly motivating trainers is what got me hooked and keeps me coming back every week. I’d highly recommend Barry’s to anyone who’s serious about getting fit!

My Hell Week experience:

Having started going to Barrys over two years ago, it really was were my love and addiction to fitness began. I take classes at Barry’s two to three times a week along side other training and have had completing a hell week on my 2016 bucket list. So when a friend suggested a group of us get together to take on the challenge I was all ears. Call me crazy but being the adrenaline junky and fitness fanatic that I am I obviously couldn’t resist.

So with the challenge accepted, here is an overview of my hell week experience.

Overall, it was the most exhausting and challenging week but I’m so glad I pushed myself and completed it. However, tomorrow will be spent with my new best friend the foam roller!
