With the bank holiday upon us last weekend I spent my Sunday evening feasting at my favourite Chicken joint, Chicken Shop. See you later Nandos!
The chicken shop is part of the Soho house group and has a few restaurants around London. We decided to visit our nearest and their most recent branch located in St John’s Wood.
Burger fans are in luck too as there’s a Dirty Burger outpost under the same roof!
Chicken Shop and Dirty Burger have somewhat of a cult following in London and have been serving up great quality, good and simple food which is cooked to perfection for ages. Which is exactly why it’s a massive hit.
The menu is split into two and displayed up on a black board for customers to choose if they’d like to go for Chicken Shop or Dirty Burger. I opted for Chicken shop, going for the half chicken, crinkle fries and coleslaw. Absolute heaven!
The table is filled with a variety of sauces. I would strongly suggest you load up your plate with the Chicken Shop’s famous smoky sauce, or if you can handle the heat the hot sauce. These sauces are so good that they actually sell them due to high demand.
What makes Chicken Shop even more special is its great atmosphere. Filled with rough wooden quirky tables, a red and white chequered floor, shadowy industrial-style lighting and good music, it’s a real winner.
The service is always good and the food comes fast, as you’d hope given such a small menu. There’s no booking and if visiting on a Friday or Saturday night expect to queue.
After eating our plates clean and feeling well and truly stuffed, we were then approached by the waiter asking if we’d like any dessert. Now, I normally I have quite good self-control when it comes to pudding, but when I’m at the Chicken shop this trait well and truly goes out the window. Their famous apple pie is legendary, and I can safely say if you’ve never tried it you haven’t lived.
The pie is served with either cream or ice cream, however the cream wins every time for me.
Every visit to this place is as good as the first, and they certainly have my seal of approval. The meat’s good, the chips are cracking and the apple pie is excellent.
What more could you ask for?
Maybe the website & locations?
Oh, go on then!
